AMEI COEs: Enhancing the quality of healthcare education
I am impressed with the spirit of comradeship and camaraderie I observed between healthcare educators across disciplines from the Academic Medicine Education Institute (AMEI). All healthcare education in 1920s Singapore was conducted in the College of Medicine Building, with very few areas of specialisation. The sharing I witnessed catalyses knowledge transfer and interprofessional learning for more integrated care.
The four AMEI centres’ focus areas align with strategic threads in the SingHealth Duke-NUS Education Masterplan, and they propel the AMC in their relentless pursuit of educational excellence.
AMEI was formed in 2012 with the purpose of enhancing the capabilities of each and every educator, so as to build the teaching pipeline and better groom generations of healthcare professionals. The Centres’ 10 key initiatives/programmes have expanded the capabilities of more than 780 educators in the past year.
In April 2023, AMEI had unveiled four new centres of excellence, further boosting learning and collaboration opportunities for healthcare educators and learners. They are the Centre for Technology Enhanced Learning & Innovation (CTELI), Centre for Interprofessional Healthcare Education (CIPHE), Centre for Healthcare Education Research & Scholarship (CHERS) and Centre for Clinician Educator Development (CCED).
